My older brother (4 or 5 years old) and I (2 or 3 years old ) unwrapping Christmas presents at my Grandma & Grandpa’s house. I consider the shag carpet rather nostalgic, the mustard yellow and sunset orange foot rests in the background with my uncles white sock feet, so fitting for the 70’s. We were the only two grandkids within the tri-state area, so presents,…oh yes, all for him and I. The excitement within myself, I could not contain, seen by the actual physical thrust I’m giving the wrapping paper, torn and thrown into the air, I could not open those presents fast enough.(Insert side story#1: Notice the blue ribbon in my hair, handmade by Lynnae, aka Mom, I loved that thing to pieces!) (Insert side story #2: if only my adult hair were still that lovely shade of sun-kissed, effortless and natural blonde…sigghhhh).
I have a present to finally unwrap and share with all my clients, past and present. It’s something in a shade of blue, an accent of brown and incorporates art and romance all at once! I’ve been working on this present for months now. And by months, I mean over 4 months of work! There will be a party to celebrate this present and yes, you’ll be invited!
Stay tuned, I’ll unveil my gift in the next week or so!
When I first saw this image, I thought, “well, I love it, but will my client?” I think most photographers who do portrait work struggle with this concept. While I need to provide a product my client is going to be happy with, I still need to stay true to who I am as an artist.
I keep going back to this image today and thinking to myself, this is so lovely! Something about the two of them not paying attention to me, the black and white of the image takes away all the colors that would normally distract.
So, I delivered it as a proof and printed it large for myself. It’s probably an image most would pass right by, but for some reason, today, I can’t take my eyes it.

Love this time of year! Seeing clients from years past is always so fun for me. Thanks for braving the cold and having fun with the shoot!

Talking to his cousin about his favorite animals.

I’m quite envious of Elle’s “Happy Baby Pose”! Whenever in my yoga classes we come to Happy Baby Pose, I always think of how sweet and cute babies are when they kick up their heels and partake in a little yoga! Elle, like many babies, hated her outfit changes, but I have to say, the results make me smile! She’s a hat girl, with an entire drawer of hats to choose from! I’ve been photographing this wee-one since her mom was pregnant. Click here to see her mom’s pregnancy, Click here to see Elle’s arrival shots. See you in another 3 months!

I’m so excited about this little “baby on the way”! I’m going to be photographing Meghann, baby-to-be and Daddy over the next year, documenting the milestones of Baby’s first year. We got together at the studio for a laid back pregnancy shoot. Baby is due in January and I cannot wait to meet this little Capricorn! Stay tuned for much much more!

Natalie & Dusty were married the Saturday Minneapolis saw the first snow fall of the season. The snow however dissipated by afternoon and the day was beautiful! I absolutely loved Natalie’s dress, a Matthew Christopher, it had a mix of ruffles and beading, which fit her perfectly! Bridesmaids wore Melissa Sweet dresses in an accent color of purple. With flowers in the deepest reds, the added color was perfect for their October nuptials! The wedding ceremony took place at Our Lady of the Lake in Mound, with a reception at the Lafayette Country Club. Thank you Natalie & Dusty for having us photograph your beautiful wedding! Congratulations!

I get a quote emailed to me every day from an online quote site. I think it started as spam and then I started to actually kind of like some of the quotes. I got this one and thought it was interested and thought I’d share.
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…. It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
As I walked in the door to photograph these two sweet-peas, I was eager to see how everyone had grown. I think after a few minutes of shooting and getting used to my big camera, Ben states to me, “these are my Saturday shoes!”, to which I replied, “Wow, they are really great!” and he said back, “I know!”. I love how innocent children are, how they simply state what is. Ben’s grown into such a great brother, in fact I heard many times, “Mary’s my best friend”. Mary is the newest member to the family and I absolutely adore her! Such a beautiful day, beautiful people and a beautiful shoot! Thanks so much for welcoming me into your new home!

I still don’t know what the story was about, but this little man laughed and laughed at what he was telling me!

We were so lucky on Julie & Kyle’s wedding day, the sun came out and the day was beautiful! The weeks prior, I think it rained every single day! I loved the special touch the bride added with surprising her groom with the beautiful sound of her Uncle playing bagpipes as they exited the church. Thanks so much for having us photograph your beautiful day!
